Anniversary of Sorrow

After a relentless battle with my mind, wading through umpteen mazes, I was able to gain access to an enshrouded event cowering behind as tall a wall that could be built by more potent and recent events. It has been a decade now and the invasion of the Semitic world by the US seems a little too hazy to me but the imbecility of the former US president remains vivid, etched in pain in the memories of a certain million.

On the heels of the WTC attack on America and the following War against Terrorism-touted as the answer to the radical movements by the terrorists- the Bush led government warned Saddam Hussein to step down and leave Iraq. The warning was loosely built on non-concrete information suggesting that Iraq was sponsoring Islamicist terrorism and furnishing them with biological, chemical and nuclear weapons.

Before the aforementioned fact could be established, the US army wreaked havoc on the desert land. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians died, thousands of Iraqi soldiers were taken down by the American troops who themselves had to bear the brunt of the folly committed by their President. Of course the rationale behind the war was a fever dream, hallucination borne by Mr President and his panel. Let alone nuclear and biological weapons, there were a few sightings of the old, rusted chemical shells just as there had been for decades.

Another similar situation beckons the world now; Syria has been allegedly supplying the Shia terrorist groups with biological and chemical weapons of mass destruction. Of late the accidental air strikes by Israel which reportedly blew off one of Syria’s weapons facility has unraveled what the world might have to square off against in nigh future.

The question to be asked right now is will US jump the gun once again or will it quietly watch the proceedings- furnishing arms to the rebels- in anticipation of a contender rising up to the occasion.

Ten years on and still the campaigns which originate against the lawless men and for dismantling the apparatus of terror continue to execute the commoners. There has been no respite for the man whose only fault it seems is emerging on a land shared by the ones who are or perceived to be a threat to world peace.

With hundreds losing their lives every day and forming a part of the collateral damage, we can establish the fact that what was initiated for the safety of men all throughout the world stays confined to the western world. What started off as a War against terrorism has transformed to an incognito battle for holding supremacy and exhibiting control.   

EPILOGUE:

As an appendage, what we can take away from Bush’s contrition is the painful realisation that all of us, including those of us considered the most responsible, well-read and serious, are purely capable of taking ourselves into committing actions that we condemn. When we are faced with options taking a chance is not always the right decision, no matter how much it may seem as the only morality in the cruel world-unbiased, unprejudiced, fair.
