Society, You're a crazy breed!!

Switching on the television set every morning and having to bear the horrifying details of the rape of the Delhi girl is not only clearing the picture of the horrendous incident that took place but it also is clearing the image of the nation we are living in, the status quo we are thriving in and most of all the society we are evolving in. And just for the word, the picture is not at all pleasant.

 After being a witness to two dreadful events- one in the East and the other in the Far West- the world needs to question its moral fabric. The need for introspection is even more now for we have reached a tipping point; we should just cease to exist if there is more to this heinous audacity of mankind.  Just to quote what one of my friends posted on Facebook the other day, “If such reprehensible and deplorable acts can only end with the end of the world, then so be it. Bring on 21st Dec”.

With such acts of indecency we might have been able to physically prove our existence but morally and symbolically humanity is dead.

The moral fibre is degrading and deteriorating at a rapid pace, we are heading towards a world where ethics and values are only encountered once in our lives- in schools-when we are under the obligation to focus on them so that they sit pretty on our report cards as exceptional grades. The Newtown massacre and the New Delhi assault is just a testimony to this ugly fact.

We can amend laws, we can certainly bring in more cops and cover the roads but at the end of the day it is another human being who shares space with us. Till the moment the fear of another human is perturbing enough, nothing will change the world and circumstances we live in.

Cannibalism is how you might put it, we are killing our own species. I am not blaming anyone, it is there, the evil is within us. The animal needs to be tamed, that’s the need of the hour.  Entire India has gone gaga over the Delhi incident, but the fact is- it is the same people who on their regular work days objectify women. The current youth-the porn downloading generation- is somewhere where the bottom of the problem lies; it is what we indulge in that later germinates into crime of this order.

If individuals continue to lower their moral values, there is no amount of fame or financial gain that can help them to restore it. When they compromise their own value system, it will not be long before they realize that they really sacrifice their own self.

It’s time we react and start acting; we cannot wait till the injustice strikes us. Time to bring in some reforms, but…within us first.
